Living with Fibromyalgia or Running Injuries

Living with Fibromyalgia: Four Steps to Manage Pain and Lead a Fulfilling Life

Author: Dean L Mondell

A clear, four-step plan to overcoming fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder that afflicts nearly 10 million Americans--mostly women. Written by a fibromyalgia sufferer and her doctor, who are collaborators for the Fibromyalgia Friends Support Group, Living with Fibromyalgia provides you with a revolutionary four-step plan to overcoming this debilitating condition.

Although there is no known cause or cure for fibromyalgia, much can be done to relieve the pain. Living with Fibromyalgia lays out a clear strategy and easy-to-follow plan that will help you learn how to adapt to this chronic illness.

The book explores how you can:

  • Find the right care
  • Rebuild your relationships
  • Stabilize stress . . . and more

Dean L. Mondell, M.D., is a physiatrist who has been in private practice for more than 20 years specializing in compassionate care of chronic pain patients suffering from severe injuries, trauma, and fibromyalgia. He serves as the medical director of Creekside Hospice.

Patti Wright is the founder and leader of the Fibromyalgia Friends Support Group. She writes regularly for AWARE magazine (National Fibromyalgia Awareness Magazine) and is a member of several fibromyalgia organizations.

Running Injuries: How to Prevent and Overcome Them

Author: Tim Noakes

In this completely revised edition of their best-selling handbook, Tim Noakes and Stephen Granger present the most up-to-date findings on running injuries, and their prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
At some point in their running careers, most runners find themselves injured, in pain, or even laid off. Running Injuries is the ultimate resource on injury prevention and is the unrivalled guide for runners of all levels--from elite athletes to weekend joggers to doctors.

James L. Moeller

This second edition paperback text looks specifically at injuries as they relate to and are associated with running. The first edition was published in 1990. Changes made in the second edition include expansion of the discussion on injury prevention as well as the addition of a discussion on factors that predispose to injury. The purpose is to provide a guide to runners on the prevention and treatment of running-related injuries. With the popularity of running as both a competitive and recreational sport, these are worthy objectives. The book is meant for runners of all levels and is also appropriate for running coaches and other individuals who are involved with runners or with athletes participating in sports that require running. The authors are not only well-known authorities on running injuries, but are accomplished runners themselves. Illustrations and photographs are of good quality and add to the text, The book is adequately indexed. The authors use of interviews from elite runners and subsequent discussion of the injuries of those runners is an interesting feature. This 176-page paperback should prove very helpful to runners and coaches of all levels. Although the information is very good, the presentation makes it less appropriate for healthcare professionals. The information in this book will help runners understand their injuries better but should not take the place of injury evaluation by appropriate healthcare providers. This book would be appropriate for personal purchase.
